Taumata Arowai water cycle
The Brief was to create an illustration of the water cycle and personifications of the various Māori Atua that inhabit these spaces for Taumata Arowai NZ's water protection agency, I personally wanted to create an illustration that wasn’t just another reinterpretation of the existing water cycles, but something with a distinctive Māori flavour, subtle but distinctive, so using the weku carving as inspiration (like a protective presence on the landscape) the landscape & artwork was developed into a distinctive representative piece, throughout this process I was in contact with Māori artist Tuatini to be sure it was reading as it should, with the final Ta Moko elements on the water, and within the personifications being created by Tuatini… all in all leading to a beautiful collaborative piece.
