FENZ Diversity

Fire & Emergency NZ commissioned myself to develop an illustration that represents FENZ's journey of diversity along a pathway, within this we needed to highlight ethnic & neurodiversity, for this I suggested a pathway that forms a Koru linking one phase of growth to the next. The Koru ties in nicely as it symbolises a number of meanings that fit with the Diversity framework including new beginnings, growth, harmony; along the path representing the growth & understanding of 'diversity' we have a Pohutukawa growing from a seed being planted, then the first shoots/sapling being watered/nurtured, the tree growing & us helping to protect it from the elements/giving it strength, the young tree growing strong enough to look after itself, finally the fully grown tree strong and beautiful offering us shelter and comfort.
